We did it. A major accomplishment in our small and simple lives. We finally bought a table. We decided last weekend that rather than squeeze a table into the kitchen, we should create our dining room outside. Why not? We have nearly perfect weather here, and it’s usually cooler outside in the evenings anyway, especially when I’ve been cooking in the kitchen.
This is Geoff’s domain. I’m letting his creativity run amok back there. I can’t wait to see how it evolves. So far he’s got a couple of wilting plants in the herb garden, but he made it farther than I ever would by taking the plants out of the pot. He’s also created a rockery. A what? A rockery. Basically a pile of rocks some what artfully collected. All this is for the lizards that he hopes to attract to the back yard so he can sit and study them all day. He also bought them a solar lamp which will hopefully attract moths at night which will, in turn, encourage the lizards to climb up and hunt said moths. My man is awesome.
Finally we discovered last night that we are totally totally lame. One of Geoff’s co-workers plays in a band at the Irish pub every Friday and Saturday, and he invited us to go check it out. They start their set at 1:30 am. Yes, you read that right. Bars don’t close until 4 am here. We haven’t been up past 11 once since we’ve been here. We psyched ourselves up to go last night. We planned on taking a nap and everything. Yeah, that didn’t happen. It was a little bit rainy outside, and my bed was so comfortable. The thought of a 40 minute walk down to Waikiki, followed by a 40 walk home at 3 am definitely did not outweigh the cozy comfort of my bed and my books. Maybe next weekend.
So come over for dinner. We’ll buy you a chair. You can eat great food under the ginger flowers and watch the lizards catch bugs and display their dominance or whatever. It’ll be fun. I promise.
